What is my profile and how can I change it?
Your profile contains your screen name, rank, total number of posts, and quote. Edit your Forum (BBS) profile by clicking on the « Edit my profile » link under the Quick Lists in the left column.

What is my Forum (BBS) rank?
Your BBS rank is determined by a super-secret algorithm based upon your contributions to The Sims 2 community, how other community members have rated your contributions to the community and your general Sim-tastic-ness. Feel free to mark posts as beneficial if you find them to be. You’ll see your ranks change as the community builds and grows!

    Forum (BBS) Rules

      BBS

Electronic Arts is dedicated to providing a friendly online community where all members feel welcome. When members join our website, they agree to abide by our Terms of Service (TOS).

Posting etiquette and rules that are most frequently broken or misunderstood on the Forum (BBS):

    Illegal Activities:

The discussion of illegal activities is not permitted. This includes software piracy, game « cracks, » among other things.

Do not ask for or give out serial numbers. If you have lost your serial number or need a new one, please contact http://techsupport.ea.com

Do not share accounts. Accounts created with stolen or shared serial numbers will be banned.

Do not post copyrighted material. This includes text from game guides.

Do not post links to stolen content from The Sims 2 Store.

Do not link to content that may raise the game rating to an « M ». This includes linking to teen pregnancy hacks, nude hacks, etc.

    Behavior:

No Swearing. Foul language will not be tolerated. Swearing via substitution of key letters with symbols is against the rules. (Example: If « horse » were a swear word and it was posted as « h**** »)

Swearing, flaming, or insulting others will not be tolerated. Respect others even if their opinions differ from yours. Don’t call people names. Post as though you were in a roomful of strangers and be civil and respectful of others. If you disagree with someone, you are free to do so politely, but please don’t make it personal.

No Flaming. No Trolling. Flaming is intentionally posting hurtful or harassing messages to a particular person in order to get a reaction. Trolling is deliberately posting sarcastic, off topic, or rude remarks in order to incite a fight or argument on the boards. Take the high road and be polite.

No Spamming or Flooding. Flooding or spamming means posting disruptive numbers of messages, including posting the same message in multiple forums.

Keep your posts and the Exchange clean. Do not post anything referencing adult materials, this includes linking to adult themed patches and downloads for the Sims. Content on this site must be suitable for younger audiences.

Please do not post personal information (i.e. your age, contact info, pictures, etc.) We have many community members who are underage and we need to do our best to protect them.

Do not impersonate anyone else on the BBS. This includes moderators, EA employees, other members, celebrities, or anyone else. This includes using a screen name that uses the words « SimMaster », « Mayor », « EA », « Maxoid », or « Maxis » without being authorized to do so.

    Guidelines for Courteous Posting:

Keep your posts relevant to the section they are in. For example, posts in the Community Showcase section should relate to the Exchange. Posts not relating to the section they are posted in may be deleted.

Blatant advertising, or spamming, of websites is not allowed. You may post a link to your website once or twice, but may not do it repeatedly. Please keep these posts in the « Community Showcase » section of our Forum (BBS).

Do not post in ALL CAPS or post multiples of words in extra-large font. This is considered shouting. Shouting is not polite. Find a less « noisy » way to emphasize your ideas.

Do not post messages with a number of repeated symbols, multiple exclamation marks or multiple question marks. (For example: ~ ~, **, !!!, ???)

Do not include religious, political or blatantly controversial content in your signature. Signatures were created to show off your Exchange and fansite creations. This is not the place to debate politics or religion. Signatures that include references to these topics are considered off-topic and inappropriate, just as it would in a post. Linking to harmful content, such as trojan horses or pornography is also inappropriate.

Confine your signature to three lines or less. Keep the content of your post easy on the eyes and focused. Having a lengthy signature distracts and clutters the board.

Do not create multiple threads for one topic or post your thread in every category. Simply choose the one most fitting for your post. Try to include all your points in a single thread.

Do not post blank or « no text » messages.

Make your subject titles as direct and descriptive as possible. Simply writing, « Help » is not informative. A better subject might be, « I Need Help with The Sims 2 Body Shop. » Such posts inevitably receive better responses and allow others to skip over questions they know they won’t be able to answer.

Do not post threads with misleading thread titles. (For example: Subject Thread Title: « Look what I discovered! » — Actual Subject Text: « Where can I find cheats? »)

Use the search feature as much as possible. You may find that your question may have already been answered. This will allow new threads to stay visible for longer periods of time.

Try to politely work out differences of opinions or agree to disagree. This is a very diverse community and there are people in the community who hold different beliefs then you. Respect their differences. Remember that what brings us together is The Sims 2.

Keep your sense of humor. This is a fun game and the BBS is a fun place to talk about The Sims 2.

    Maxoids:

Maxoids are employees of Electronic Arts. Their job is to manage the entire site including regular updates, keeping the site clean, and enforcing rules. Please respect the decisions they make as they are representatives of EA. If you have a question or concern, please sign a guestbook of a Maxoid.

    Moderators:

Finally, the SimMasters are given authority by EA to moderate the BBS. Please respect the decisions they make. If you have a question or concern over an action a moderator has taken, approach them in a polite manner and ask for an explanation.

Repeated violations of these rules may result in a member being banned from participation on the Forum (BBS). We reserve the right to ban or alter an account’s permissions on this web site at any time, without warning.

Thank you for abiding by our rules and have a pleasant time using our boards. If you spot something that you think may be inappropriate, please report it to one of our moderators.

    TheSims2.com - Community - Interview 12.21.04

Kerie Kimbrell, aka. MaxoidPlumbob, is Maxis’ in house film editor. Today she discusses makin’ movies with MaxoidMonkey!

MaxoidMonkey: MaxoidPlumbob, How did you get involved in filmmaking? And how long have you been doing it?

MaxoidPlumbob: I started out as an apprentice editor 16 years ago. We edited on film then and part of my job was to organize the film. I would literally hand the editor each shot as they needed it. I loved it. It was a great way to learn.

MM: Tell us what makes a good movie.

MP: Interesting characters, a good story and nice camera work are things I like in a movie.

MM: Since the best movies always have a great story, do you have any tips and pointers for creating a good story?

MP: There needs to be a beginning a middle and an end to the story. A good story usually shows a main character with a challenge or conflict. Also, The beginning of the movie should introduce the setting and give some background information about the main character. In the Middle you can start to show scenes that set up the main character’s challenge or conflict and that help build suspense for the movie. These scenes should build in intensity to the climax of the movie. Think of the climax as the part where action is the most intense, where we wonder what will happen next. At the end of the climax you will have a turning point where the suspense ends, and the main character’s conflict is resolved, At this point you still might need to explain other plot points. After that comes the ending. In the end you need to show something that gives a sense of closure and that brings the movie to conclusion. It can be something like the beginning but that shows a change in the main character.

MM: Sometimes the most difficult part of making a movie is the ending. Do you have any good tips on how to wrap up the story lines proposed throughout a movie? How do you go about creating a satisfying conclusion?

MP: I would start by writing down what your main characters struggle or conflict is in the movie, then think about whether your ending makes sense and if it provides a sense of closure and sets the right mood.

Some endings are « open ended » where the view has to decide for themselves what has happened or « closed ended » where the movie maker has made the connections and it is clear to the viewer what has happened. A « cliffhanger » is an abrupt ending, often at the height of the excitement and ending with a title card reading « to be continued ». This type of ending would need to be followed up with another movie that has a ending. Eventually you need an ending.

MM: Got some pointers for creating a good movie?

MP: Try and write down the idea for your movie in 1 or 2 sentences. Make sure it has a beginning, middle and an end. All of your scenes should tell a part of the story and move the story forward. Try not to include a scene that doesn’t provide any new information for the viewer.

MM: When you’re creating movies for Maxis, what is your process?

First, we write down treatment that includes the characters, and the story with the beginning, middle and end. Then we start building the set and the characters in the game and grabbing still frames of camera angles that we think will work for each scene. Next, we print up all the frames and put them on a wall and rework the order until we think it’s right. This gives us a chance to change our minds and come up with new ideas before we start trying to capture. After we capture, i’ll start editing but will usually decide that I need more footage and we’ll re-capture some scenes from different angles.

MM: What sort of cheats or methods do you use to ‘get the right shot’? Do you use cheats or methods that are different from what the users have?

MP: Sometimes we set key positions for the camera and jump between them to get some motion in the shot and still have the framing be nice. I will also capture the scene a little wide so that I can blow it up later to get the composition just right. I don’t think I have any cheats that the community doesn’t havewell, except for a money cheat to help build.

MM: How long does it usually take you to create a movie of 2 minutes in length?

MP: It depends on how complicated the story gets but usually around 2 days to capture and another day to edit. The sound crew can usually pull additional sound effects and do a mix with music in about 1/2 day. I don’t do everything. There are usually several people working on a movie.

MM: What are the challenges you encounter in create movies with the sims 2?

MP: Getting the sims to do what you want them to. It’s definitely an amusing and sometimes frustrating process. Sometimes we lock them in a room or make them sleep so they won’t disrupt the shot if they’re not in it. I think it’s funny when you try and get one sim to kiss another and they get slapped because you haven’t got them in the right mood. Or If you’ve forgotten to turn off « free will » and you have 2 sims in a hot tub and you want them to kiss but then a 3rd sim appears out of no where, gets in and starts making moves on one of your other sims. It can be pretty crazy. We like to yell « cut », like we’re on a movie set, when they mess up. Sometimes the camera frustrates me too. It isn’t always as smooth as I would like it.

MM: Thankyou for the great advice, MaxoidPlumbob!

Ensuite peu peu, j’ai commenc m’ennuyer.

Maintenant, nouvelle priode d’ennui.
